Get to know a little of our history

Memory is common evidence during trial proceedings, both through victim testimonials, as in the recognitions. Being personal and subjective, the memory is, So, source of many wrongful convictions, when a witness remembers something that didn't happen (false memories) or recognizes an innocent suspect as being the perpetrator of a crime.

The reporting of suspects is also important evidence, and we need to think about how to develop a cooperation of the suspect to obtain important information for the investigation. On the other hand, it is necessary to avoid techniques without scientific basis, that can undermine the investigation and lead to misdeeds of justice.

The CogJus (Laboratory of Teaching and Research in Cognition and Justice) is a project maintained by the Imed Foundation and has the support of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights and follows examples of initiatives already existing in countries such as the United States, England and Norway.
